With the development of the Prelude field (Nort West Australia), Shell is constructing the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project.
The Technip- Samsung consortium is contracted for the design, construction and installation of the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility for the Prelude field.

The FLNG will be moored with a total of sixteen anchor lines. The anchors in this system are steel, 5½ meter diameter piles, each 62 meters long and weighing over 650 tons. The piles are produced in the Aviles area (Spain) and Jumbo is contracted by Technip to transport these sixteen piles from Aviles to Batam in Indonesia. Once there, the piles are transferred by Jumbo to cargo barges, which will be taken to the installation vessel for installation.

To execute this transportation work, Jumbo depends on the capabilities of its J-class vessels. Jumbo Jubilee and Fairpartner were scheduled to take these loads to their destination. On the 2nd of October the first piles were loaded by the Jumbo Jubilee crew and on the 26th of November the project was completed as the Fairpartner crew offloaded the last of the sixteen piles onto the cargo barge. The vessels crews worked around the clock to maximize the efficiency of the work execution. By thorough preparation and strict control of the operation, another prestigious transport job was safely completed.
