LNG PROJECT
Jumbo transports large spherical tank
HLV FAIRPARTNER | AUSTRALIA
In July 2015, HLV Fairpartner was subcontracted to transport a 600t spherical tank and associated equipment from a client’s fabrication yard in Sattahip, Thailand, to the Ichthys Project Onshore LNG facilities in Darwin, Australia. The tank will be utilised to store propane refrigerated gas for start-up and commissioning.
Jumbo was awarded the contract due to the technical and operational know how which was needed to handle the large dimensions of the sphere tank and to meet Australian environmental restrictions. The cargo specifics consisted out of:
- A 600t Sphere Tank 17.00 x 17.00 x 22.00m
- A 63.3t Stair Tower 8.10 x 22.60 x7.19m
- A 40.4t Platform 13.00 x 14.00 x 4.30m
Project preparations and execution
Jumbo engineers worked on technical preparations like strict requirements to position the vessel at both ports, lift and load spreading arrangements of the Sphere and Tidal restrictions in Darwin. These preparations paid off and provided for a smooth execution of the project. Jumbo engineers worked on technical preparations like strict requirements to position the vessel at both ports.
Last year Jumbo was also subcontracted by the same company to transport 12 storage tanks that had a combined volume of 32.000 m3. All storage tanks were transported with HLV Fairpartner in one voyage. Similar to the Sphere transport this year Jumbo engineers where involved throughout the entire project.
